Edwardian Apron Pattern

Edwardian Apron Pattern

SKU:

This pattern was based on a 1910-1912 apron pattern. Aprons like these were called "dress protectors" and were made to cover a lady's dress while she was doing serious work in the garden or kitchen. Laundering was a major chore in those days. Wash water had to be boiled, clothing wrung out several times, then the wet, heavy dresses would be hung to dry...in the winter months especially, laundry was a days-long task. Generous aprons protected skirts and bodices from stains, permitting the wearer to simply air them out, and wash the much smaller and lighter aprons instead.

Apron is designed with flattering princess lines and back ties. Use any cotton fabric, stripe, solid or calico. For dressy occasions, use a voile or organdy, and wear this as a hostess apron.

Sizes 6-18 in one package. Made by Sense & Sensebility pattern makers. Easy to use - I highly recommend them for even beginning sewers. Sense & Sensibility
